The Greater Manchester Technology Fund

In response to the increased cost of living in Britain and concerns around the impact of this on our poorest households, Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester has launched phase 3 of the Greater Manchester Technology Fund (GM Tech Fund).

In June 2022, the Mayor called on the business community to support disadvantaged families across the region by donating technology and connectivity to the fund.

Donations received in phase three of the GM Tech Fund will be used to support students from Pupil Referral Unit’s (PRU) alternative education provision for young people who are not able to attend mainstream school, and Special Educational Need and Disabilities (SEND) schools, providing those schools in need of support with a package of support tailored to their specific needs including devices, connectivity, and skills support.

What is the GM Tech Fund?

The GM Tech Fund was first set up in 2020, and has supported over 3,537 people to date,  with the technology and connectivity needed to continue their learning at home whilst schools and colleges were closed.

How can you support it?

The Greater Manchester Technology Fund is another way that our businesses can contribute to the Greater Manchester effort to address digital and social exclusion and ensure local students from SEND and PRU schools have equal access to learning and opportunity, regardless of background or situation.

If you are in a position to be able to support these students to get connected you can do so in the following ways

We are looking for businesses to:

  • Donate new devices particularly laptops, Chromebooks and iPads
  • Donate preloved working devices which will be repurposed
  • Offer skills and career support for both teachers and young people
  • Volunteer with GMCA through the Bridge GM team, to support young people to engage with future pathways, learn about careers and realise their potential. Find out more.
