"Everyone who lives and works in GM must be able to benefit from our growing economy..."

Responding to today’s report from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and The University of Manchester’s Inclusive Growth Analysis Unit, GMCA Lead member for Fairness, Equalities and Cohesion, Councillor Jean Stretton said: “The inclusive growth agenda is a key part of my new portfolio and I welcome this important report.” 

“There are real positives for Greater Manchester in there but we understand there are big challenges we must tackle to improve life for people in every part of our city-region. 

“Greater Manchester’s economy is growing and there are new jobs and opportunities for people in GM. However it is clear that not all of residents in all areas are benefiting equally from these.

“Everyone who lives and works in GM must be able to benefit from our growing economy and transformed local services.  

“The new Mayor will have substantial powers and budgets and one of their key priorities has to be identifying how to work with partners and government to identify specific and practical steps to ensure we include more people in the benefits of prosperity. 

“The GMCA is already undertaking work to improve skills provision and training that matches the needs of local business, to help people find a home in an area where they want to live and create a world class transport system that connects all parts of GM.  This work and much more will continue to improve peoples’ lives across the region.”
