GM Mayor Tony Lloyd pays tribute to heroes past and present

Tony Lloyd said: “Remembrance Day is a time for each of us to reflect on and share the personal stories and memories that bind us still to those who gave their lives for the liberty of others. 

“We remember loved ones lost, respect our heroes still doing their duty, and honour those who have returned to us, having made huge sacrifices for our rights and freedoms.

“It’s so important to remember the sacrifices of all those who have served and continue to serve their country. Greater Manchester is a proud, multicultural city, and in this time of remembrance our diverse communities across Greater Manchester unite in our commemoration.”

Yesterday Tony and his deputy PCC Jim Battle laid wreaths at the City of Manchester Police War Memorial at Lloyd Street Police Station in Manchester Town Hall.

Tony is also attending services across Greater Manchester in order to lay wreaths and honour heroes from our armed forces.

Tony will join the Jewish community of South Manchester in their civic and Remembrance service, and in Bolton, Remembrance Sunday will be marked by a procession of civic leaders, a two-minutes’ silence at 11am, followed by a service and the laying of wreaths at the cenotaph in Victoria Square.
