Local organisations invited to support Guarantee for young people
GREATER Manchester’s Youth Task Force is inviting organisations across the city-region to make commitments to young people.
The call for action is part of a piece of work being carried out to develop and deliver a Guarantee for young people who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and really help 11 to 30-year-olds feel positive for their future.
A meeting for stakeholders, and others keen to support young people and the work being driven by the Task Force, took place on Wednesday, September 23, when the commitments process was launched.
More than 100 people took part in the session including members of the Youth Advisory Group (YAG) – who shared updates on their involvement so far.
To develop the Guarantee, the Youth Task Force, which includes 24 young people in the form of the YAG, will focus on four key themes so organisations making commitments must ensure they are linked to at least one of these.
The four key themes – keeping connected, staying well, making effective transitions, and removing economic inequalities - were agreed by young people earlier on this year as part of the consultation stages of this piece of work.
Chair of Youth Task Force, Diane Modahl, said: “We know many organisations and groups across Greater Manchester’s boroughs already work hard to support and help young people. Now more than ever we need that support to continue as the impact of COVID-19 becomes more apparent.
“We are now inviting you to get in touch to make a commitment as part of the Young Person’s Guarantee to help us protect the futures of young people, to help build resilience and optimism by raising awareness about opportunities on offer for young people.
“Our ask is that local organisations make one or more commitment for young people (aged 11-30) linking to one of the four key areas the Guarantee is focusing on and help raise awareness of our work by sharing messages and encouraging others to get involved.”
UA92 and the Prince’s Trust have made commitments this week to help young people in Greater Manchester as part of the Young Person’s Guarantee.
UA92 has committed to offer grants of £5,000 to 92 young people in Greater Manchester to help them access higher education, with the Prince’s Trust making a number of commitments including to support young people by investing £250,000 to help drive forward parts of the Young Person’s Guarantee.
There is no deadline for submitting commitments as the Task Force will be continually promoting opportunities to ensure young people can benefit from what’s on offer at a time that suits them.
