Mayor and Deputy Mayor welcome new Integrated Care Partnership

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor have welcomed the new Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership (link opens in new window), which comes into operation from Friday 1 July.

Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham said: “We should be proud of the work that’s already taken place to bring health and care services closer together in Greater Manchester. We’re already seeing the positive impact of this effort since our devolved powers came into effect.

“However, we know that there’s still more to be done to improve services and people’s experiences. I am hopeful that as the new NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care launches today, it will shift the dial on collaboration and innovation.

“Debt, poverty, poor-quality housing, and insecure or underpaid work are often the root causes of poor health in our city-region. It’s vital that we tackle these issues, and work together to find better solutions that deliver for people here in Greater Manchester.”

Deputy Mayor Paul Dennett, Chair of the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership, said: “I am delighted to lead on the health portfolio and chair Greater Manchester’s Integrated Care Partnership from the start as we work together to build on our devolution journey, whilst going further through joint working to address the wider determinants of health and wellbeing across our city-region.

“The changes today as Government formally launch Integrated Care Systems represent a significant next step to further integrate health with local government, social care, wider public services, whilst also strengthening our relationship with the third sector and local communities to meet local needs, and improve the care people receive.

“I am a firm believer in the strengths of people and place, the very strengths we will need as we look to meet our challenges and opportunities head on. I am looking forward to working with colleagues, building on Greater Manchester's long-standing collaborative approach and delivering on our commitments within the Greater Manchester Strategy, whilst also enabling each and every person the opportunity to maximise their health and wellbeing."
