New leadership team elected for Greater Manchester Youth Combined Authority

Last week (Thursday 8 October) members of the Greater Manchester Youth Combined Authority (YCA) welcomed the appointment of its first leadership team.

The team includes a newly selected Chair, Communications lead, Digital lead, Inclusivity rep and Secretary.

The selected individuals will work together to focus on the development of the YCA as it moves into its third year since it began in 2018. Find out more about the YCA.

Potential candidates were given the opportunity to demonstrate their aspirations for the progress of the YCA and were appointed by their peers at the meeting

  • Chair: Liam; Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service
  • Communications lead: Leyan; Wigan Council
  • Digital lead: Tommy; Salford Youth Council
  • Inclusivity rep: Shekinnah; Caribbean and African Health Network
  • Secretary: Bethan; The Proud Trust

Following their appointment to their new positions on Thursday, the team met with Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, who passed on his congratulations to the members.

Newly appointed Chair of YCA, Liam, said, “It’s an honour to be appointed Chair of the Greater Manchester Youth Combined Authority. Throughout my time as a member I’ve been given some great opportunities, from developing Our Pass to speaking on stage at the Convention of the North.

“But now I want to be a driving force behind the future development of the YCA and help others get involved. The team has some great ideas to not only mature the YCA itself, but to showcase the YCA to the city-region; we want to work for and with the young people of Greater Manchester.”

The group are currently set to meet on a weekly basis as they create their initial plans, with plans to meet every quarter with the Mayor to give regular updates on YCA activity.
