Our Pass releases winter wave of offers for Christmas holidays; 3 million journeys taken

  • New wave of opportunities includes free and discounted tickets for the Lightopia Festival, Manchester Storm ice hockey matches & concerts at Manchester Cathedral
  • More than 3 million bus journeys have been made by card holders, who are taking on average over 250,000 bus journeys per week

More than 3 million bus journeys have been made by Our Pass holders across Greater Manchester since the glossy purple card launched at the beginning of September.

Young people, for a one-off £10 administration fee, have been able to take advantage of free bus travel across Greater Manchester since the start of September.

Our Pass holders can now access a new winter wave of activities - including offers and competitions for Lightopia, the Manchester Storm and the Manchester Cathedral.

There are 125 opportunities currently live on the Our Pass website, helping 16 to 18-year-olds get out and explore Greater Manchester. So, even if the winter wave is not for you, there’s no need to be a bah humbug this December with plenty of other offers and discounts available online at OurPass.co.uk.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, said: “Passing three million Our Pass journeys is a significant milestone; one I hope signifies a step-change in the way young people think about, and use, our buses. I don’t want anyone to have their chances in life limited because they can’t afford the cost of travel or tickets.”

Since Our Pass went live more than 35,000 cards have been issued to over half of eligible 16-18-year olds in Greater Manchester. Now, on average, they are taking over 250,000 journeys per week. It provides clear evidence of how we can support communities across the city-region and get more people using buses again.”

Young people can step into a world of light, colour and imagination at the Lightopia Festival in Heaton Park this month. Greater Manchester’s biggest park is hosting the festive event until December 31. The first 100 Our Pass holders to apply received free tickets, with a further 1,000 tickets available with a 30% discount.

The Manchester Storm Ice Hockey Club is offering the chance to win free family passes, to watch a match at Planet Ice Altrincham in Trafford. Alternatively, Our Pass holders can pay just £5 entry to watch a home match this season. The Manchester Storm season runs until March, with games usually on a Friday or Saturday night.

And Our Pass holders can enter to be in with a chance of winning tickets to two of Manchester Cathedral’s Christmas performances this month:

'Family Carols', on December 14, at 7.30pm; and ‘Viennese Christmas by Candlelight’, on December 15, at 7:30pm. The historic building on Victoria Street, in the heart of Manchester, is also hosting several other free events throughout December.
