Speech Language Communication
The ability to communicate is fundamental to our existence and is a skill that most of us take for granted, a bit like breathing. However, for many children with speech, language and communication needs, the impact can be life changing and can directly impact on their ability to learn, make friends and their future life chances.
It has been calculated that 34% or 1 in 3 of children and in Greater Manchester have some form of communication need.
We have a unique opportunity in the early years to give children the language and communication tools for life as the young brain is uniquely responsive to positive experiences. To support this we have developed the GM early years language and communication pathway which sets out our agreed approach to early identification and interventions to capitalise on this unique time period. The pathway is accompanied by resources for you to use to support language and communication in settings and at home.
