Man and woman tickling the hands of young baby

Greater Manchester Baby Bank Network

Greater Manchester is home to 210,000 children aged 0-5, including over 33,000 babies under one year old. 26.3% of these young children live in low-income families.

Babies born into poverty face significant inequalities that can affect their relationships, physical and mental health, and development. These effects can potentially impact their entire lives. At different times in our lives we all need help or can offer help to others. Babies, by their nature, need help, mostly this comes from their families and wider communities.

The GM Baby Bank Network is made up of organisations which are meeting the essential needs of parents and babies from pregnancy onward.

Baby Banks provide items such as baby clothes, nappies, prams, Moses baskets, cots and other equipment to families, either directly or through a referrer. Some Baby Banks also offer toys, books, clothes, and school uniform for older children.

Baby Banks are an invaluable community resource for families in need and are heavily relied upon by public sector workers in health and social care to provide essential goods for children and families. Baby Banks also contribute to a green and sustainable solution by reusing and recycling equipment, clothes, toys, and books. Partnership working through the GM Baby Bank Network furthers the potential for collaboration and greater efficiency.

If you are a family looking for support with items for a new or expected baby, please ask your health visitor or midwife to complete a referral for the Baby Bank in your area.
