Graphene, Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Alliance (GAMMA)

Greater Manchester has established the Graphene, Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Alliance (GAMMA) to support growth and innovation in the advanced materials and manufacturing sector.

By convening industry, academia, and business support organisations connected to advanced materials and advanced manufacturing, GAMMA has become the sector representative body in Greater Manchester.

GAMMA’s vision is for an advanced materials and manufacturing super-cluster in the North of England that drives a more productive, sustainable, highly skilled, and innovative industry, with the adoption of industrial digital technologies supporting advanced manufacturing’s transition to net zero.

Chaired by Mike Murray Chief Innovation Officer, of The Vita Group GAMMA helps to shape local and national strategy and policy for Greater Manchester’s advanced materials and manufacturing sector – identifying opportunities to apply graphene and advanced materials technologies, increasing innovation, including through Made Smarter (external website), and ensuring the skills required are available to support the sector’s growth.

It has played an important role in shaping the support and investment provided through the Greater Manchester Investment Zone, which is investing £160 million of public funding in the advanced materials and manufacturing sector. GAMMA has also led the development of proposals for the Centre of Expertise in Advanced Materials and Sustainability (CEAMS), which secured £5.5 million through the Innovation Accelerator programme, and the Sustainable Materials & Manufacturing Centre (SMMC), an investment totalling £10 million in Atom Valley.
