Pension
Are you getting all you are entitled to?
A wide range of benefits and entitlements are available to individuals of state pension age. It is important to make sure that you, and the older people in your life, are claiming all that you are entitled to.
Pension Credit
New figures have revealed that older people in Greater Manchester are missing out on an estimated £367m they’re entitled to every year.
Residents over 65 and their families are being encouraged to check if they are eligible for benefits ahead of the winter months. Pension Credit, Carer’s Allowance and Attendance Allowance can be available to older people who receive their State Pension. Each benefit has a different eligibility so people to check if they’re entitled to all support available.
1 in 4 people aged over 65 in Greater Manchester are entitled to claim Pension Credit but 40% of those people are missing out. The average claim in Greater Manchester is worth £3,400 a year. Pension Credit gives you extra money to help with your living costs if you’re over State Pension age and on a low income. Claiming Pension Credit also unlocks other financial benefits such as a free TV licence for over 75s, council tax support, and eligibility for support with home insulation.
People are Greater Manchester are already getting support this winter:
“Someone told me about it. I didn’t think I would be entitled. I was a carer for my mum and dad and so I’ve not got all my pension.” (Female, aged 75).
“Pension Credit has helped me with lots of the costs including food, clothing and bedding. I was a carer for my husband before he died. I was a machinist and a dinner lady, but I don’t get a full pension.” (Female, aged 86).
