Police, Fire and Crime Panel

Supported by the Police and Crime Steering Group, the Police, Fire and Crime Panel is responsible for holding the Deputy Mayor for Safer and Stronger Communities to account on policing and fire and rescue issues.

With 17 members in total – made up of 10 appointed councillors from each of the Greater Manchester local authority areas, five co-opted political members, and two independent members – the panel is consulted on regarding precept proposals and the police and crime plan, the fire plan and the proposed allocation of budget for fire and rescue functions. The panel works to ensure that the actions and decisions made by the Deputy Mayor reflect public priorities.

The panel is currently chaired by Councillor Janet Emsley (external website) from Rochdale Borough Council.
