There are safe, trusted people and services in key locations across Manchester city centre.
Village Angels (external website)
What: Look out for their hot pink uniforms
Where: The Gay Village (Canal Street) - Google maps (external website)
When: Friday and Saturday nights until 3am
Student Angels
What: Trained student volunteers who provide support, advice and assistance to their student community.
Where: Outside main venues across the city centre, particularly along Oxford Road
When: 10pm – 4am on Friday and Saturday nights and during major student events
Greater Manchester Police officers
What: Up to 50 officers on patrol to help support specific night-time issues.
Where: Key city centre night-time hotspots
When: Every Friday and Saturday night
Taxi marshals
What: Ensure the safety of people accessing taxis. Look out for those wearing hi-vis vests.
Where: Key taxi ranks across the city centre
When: Every Friday and Saturday night between 10.30pm and 4.30am
Safe Zone: University security app
What: An app that connects you to University of Manchester (UoM) and Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) security
How: Search online for 'Manchester Safe Zone' for UoM and MMU's information, search the App Store or Google Play for 'Safe Zone' or visit UoM's website to find out more.
Bee Network TravelSafe (external website)
What: TravelSafe Support and Enforcement Officers travel on the bus network in the city centre and work alongside Bee Network staff at interchanges. Metrolink TravelSafe Officers are located on the Metrolink network – all of these staff members can offer support.
When: During bus, Metrolink and interchange operating hours.
British Transport Police Railway Guardians
What: A free all-in-one safety app that allows you to report crimes or concerns on the railway and what to do if you see sexual harassment on trains or at stations.
