The Bee Network
The Bee Network is Greater Manchester’s new joined-up travel network, helping people make seamless journeys by bus, tram, train, walking, wheeling or cycling.
Eventually it will be a one-stop-shop for all local journeys, making it easier and cheaper to get around.
- Greater Manchester has made history as the first area outside London to bring all local bus services under local control as part of the Bee Network in almost 40 years.
- With 99 stops and a network of lines across Greater Manchester, the fully accessible Metrolink tram system is a key part of the Bee Network, carrying a more than 45 million journeys in 2024.
- We’re making it easier to walk, wheel and cycle by building the country’s largest active travel network. We’re connecting every area and community in Greater Manchester with 1,800 miles of safe routes and 2,400 new crossings.
- We’re also working to bring eight local commuter train services onboard in three phases through to 2028, with all local rail services part of the Bee Network by 2030.
Keeping fares low
Through the Bee Network we’re keeping fares low and working to make it as easy as possible to pay for your journey. We’re:
- Keeping the £2/£1 single bus fare through to the end of 2025 (subject to a mid-year review.) You can catch as many buses as you need within 60mins of buying your single ‘hopper’ ticket.
- Making it quicker and easier to pay for your journey with ‘tap and go’ payments across bus and tram. So you won’t have to pay more than a daily or weekly cap.
Supporting a sustainable future
The Bee Network is integral to the overall success of the city-region. It will:
- Help Greater Manchester’s strategy to support a growing population by building 175,000 new homes and creating 100,000 new jobs.
- Play a key role in Greater Manchester’s collective and ambitious target of achieving carbon neutral living by 2038.
Through a zero-carbon transport network and a shift-change in how people make journeys, we want to see one million more sustainable journeys every day by public transport or walking, wheeling or cycling by 2040.
