Recycle for Greater Manchester

R4GM is the public facing brand for the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) waste disposal function. GMCA is the largest waste disposal authority in the country.

Recycle for Greater Manchester (R4GM) work with local councils in Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford, to inspire and encourage residents of Greater Manchester to manage their waste responsibly, helping residents to see the value of waste and the real benefits that can be achieved by wasting less, recycling more and recycling right.

Though part of Greater Manchester, Wigan administers its own waste disposal services.

Household Waste & Recycling Centres

Our Household Waste Recycling Centres (external website) (operated by Suez UK) are available for Greater Manchester residents to recycle, donate or dispose of their unwanted household items.

Residents wishing to use their own or a hired van to access the HWRCs must apply for a van permit (external website).

Waste & Recycling At Home

We are responsible for the management and disposal of your household waste. We handle around 4 per cent of the UKs municipal waste. This is approximately 1.1 million tonnes of waste and recycling each year from over a million households from across Greater Manchester (excluding Wigan).

R4GM Campaigns

Recycle for Greater Manchester deliver a wide range of campaigns in partnership with the 9 districts of Greater Manchester. The campaigns aim to encourage consumers to reduce their waste and recycle more things more often from all around the home.

Renew Greater Manchester

Renew is an ambitious and unique project which aims to create value from waste to benefit Greater Manchester. It’s a joint initiative between R4GM & SUEZ UK. We take items donated at Recycling Centres across Greater Manchester, then we repair and renew them at our Renew Hub, ready to be resold to a new home.

Our Education Team

The Education team at Recycle for Greater Manchester is here to support you with educating and engaging students and residents in the Greater Manchester waste contract area (this excludes Wigan). We provide site visit opportunities, online sessions,  resources , games and films that encourage residents to waste less and recycle more.
