Completed initiatives

As part of our test-and-learn approach, the MBacc has trialled a number of pilot projects to explore new ideas and ways of working. While these specific initiatives have now concluded, they’ve played an important role in shaping what comes next.

The insights, successes and lessons from these pilots are already being embedded into the wider MBacc offer and new initiatives. Below you’ll find a summary of these completed projects and how their outcomes are helping to inform and strengthen future work.

Aim:

The Digital Agency pilot set out to give young people hands-on experience of digital careers by immersing them in real world, real work projects. Working with around 50 students from three Greater Manchester schools, the project connected young people with industry professionals to apply their digital skills in meaningful, employer-informed projects, while supporting educators to strengthen links between curriculum content and industry practice.

Outcome:

The pilot successfully demonstrated the value of practical, employer-led projects in helping young people build confidence and make sense of digital career opportunities beyond coding alone. It gave students a better understanding of the range of digital roles available locally and allowed them to work collaboratively towards shared outcomes, mirroring real workplace environments.

What's next?

Building on the insights from the Digital Agency pilot, we’re now developing new opportunities that continue to connect classroom learning with real-world skills. One exciting next step is the Applied Computing Certificate, created in partnership with the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

This innovative qualification is designed to equip young people with the applied digital and computing skills employers tell us they need, not just for jobs in tech, but for roles across every sector of the economy.
