Old Trafford, Trafford
Following discussion and agreement at the Age Well Board in October 2023, Trafford became the ninth local authority to join the Pathfinder programme.
The project is led by Trafford Community Collective who are working with Trafford Council and other key stakeholders and partners.
The aims of the Pathfinder project are to:
- Reduce loneliness and social isolation
- Engage people more in community-based activities
- Improve older people’s physical and mental wellbeing
The Pathfinder will build on a community-based approach to:
- Establish a partnership of voluntary, community and public sector partners to map existing support, identify gaps and opportunities for cross-organisational working and engage directly with individuals
- Develop a collaborative and inclusive approach to community-based support for older people in Old Trafford, working with individuals/families and communities to co-design this.
- Engage with partners and local people to develop a good understanding of:
- What it is like to live in the Old Trafford Area
- What could make it better
- How can we work together
Engaging with residents
The Trafford Community Collective will continue to engage with older residents through work with local groups and the delivery of presentations to sheltered housing schemes in Limelight and Lowry Lodge.
Through this engagement, the Collective hopes to help older people in the area access activities and find out what is important to these residents.
Furthermore, the Collective hopes to build on the work to date by developing further positive relationships with key local partners.
International Day of Older Persons 2023
For International Day of Older Persons, Greater Manchester Combined Authority partnered with Yellow Jigsaw to film local older residents in place.
Throughout August and September, films were recorded with local residents in each of the Ageing in Place Pathfinder neighbourhoods. Below is the video recorded with Mark from Trafford.
