Ridge Hill, Tameside


Jigsaw Support, part of Jigsaw Homes Group, is the Pathfinder lead in the neighbourhood of Ridge Hill in Stalybridge, Tameside. Ridge Hill was selected in part because of its high density of residents aged 50 years and over.

The organisation has been collaborating with residents and a wide range of stakeholders, including the Big Local, TMBC Population Health and Action Together, to understand what it’s like to live in Ridge Hill, how it can be improved and how we can work together to make it better.

Engaging with residents

Through creative engagement workshops involving music, song, art and physical movement and community engagement events such as ‘Ridge Hill Together’ and ‘International Day of Older Persons‘, Jigsaw Support has gathered information from across the local community.   

This feedback has provided invaluable insight into what it’s like to live in Ridge Hill and has shaped the initial focus of the project. It has also allowed for a clear direction to be agreed with the Pathfinder Partnership Board.  

What we know so far

Key themes that have emerged from the Board:

  • Community cohesion
  • Social participation - increasing skills and physical activity
  • Communication and information – promoting digital inclusion
  • Social inclusion - specific activities for men

Resident-led workgroups are planning and delivering activities including:

  • A constituted ‘Ridge Hill Together’ community group
  • Social activities (including movie nights)
  • A strength and balance exercise classes
  • A community newsletter and noticeboards
  • Digital training and Digital Champions programme
  • Men in Kitchens cookery courses
International Day of Older Persons 2023

For International Day of Older Persons, Greater Manchester Combined Authority partnered with Yellow Jigsaw to film local older residents in place.

Throughout August and September, films were recorded with local residents in each of the Ageing in Place Pathfinder neighbourhoods. Below is the video recorded with Peter from Brinnington.
