September 2023 winner - Mewn

Mewn are Daniel Bluer (Guitar, vocals), Rachel Bell (Guitar), Matthew Protz (Keys), Daniel Cowman (Drums) and Tom Allen (Bass). It’s grim up North, some would have you believe, but the music created by Manchester 5-piece Mewn may convince you otherwise.

The group excels in crafting beautiful, textured art-rock, unphased by the prospects of sincerity and honesty. Despite having only two EP releases under their belt, the band have had no shortage of gaining national attention.

Their debut release, ‘Landscapes Unchanged’, was picked up by the likes of DIY and So Young Magazine, and the band received airtime with Lauren Laverne and Stuart Maconie. The elegant and absorbing sophomore EP, ‘Such As This’, quickly followed, marking the band’s considered shift to a more mature and thoughtful approach to their craft. Attention is paid to every detail, from the opening note to the closing chord.
