Information Asset Management Project - Phase two

Unlocking the Power of Information: IAM Phase Two Update

Welcome to the latest update on the Information Asset Management (IAM) project! Over the past twelve months, we’ve been hard at work, and phase two is now entering its final stages. Let’s dive into the highlights:

Our Goals

  1. Wider Information Framework: Our mission is to enable a comprehensive information framework across the GMCA-TfGM IG shared service. This means empowering teams with the tools and knowledge they need to manage their information and data assets effectively.

  2. Empowering Teams: We’re all about empowerment! Directorates, functional areas, and teams are gaining the insights and ongoing support necessary to handle their assets like pros.

  3. Culture Shift: Beyond technicalities, we’re fostering a long-term culture change. How we manage information and data assets matters, and we’re embedding this mindset throughout the organization.

What We’ve Achieved

Phase two has been a whirlwind of progress:

  1. IARs and RoPAs Expansion: Our Information Asset Registers (IARs) and Records of Processing Activities (RoPAs) have grown significantly. We’ve meticulously recorded over 500 information and data assets, thanks to our dedicated Information Asset Officers (IAOs).

  2. Engagement Sessions: Collaboration is key! We’ve held eight engaging sessions with our IAO community, sharing best practices and learning from each other.

  3. Deeper Insights with Power BI: Data nerds, rejoice! Our Power BI dashboards are linked to the IAR and RoPA data, allowing us to explore our assets in greater detail.

  4. Business as Usual: IAM is now seamlessly integrated into our business partnering model. Regular asset reviews keep things running smoothly.

Culture and Training

Our spotlight is on culture and behaviour change:

  1. Training Revamp: We’re revamping training for IAOs and IAAs. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, our new module will cover essential skills and responsibilities. Plus, we’ll emphasize the benefits of top-notch information asset management.

  2. Exploration Tools: Soon, our IARs and RoPAs will be accessible to colleagues across GMCA, GMFRS, and TfGM. These registers aren’t just paperwork—they’re powerful exploration tools that unlock the full value of our information.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this exciting journey!
