Public Consultations on Joint Supplementary Planning Documents

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), in partnership with local planning authorities, is coordinating the production of two joint Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs). The joint SPDs will help to guide planning applications for new homes and business. 

The joint SPDs cover two European protected habitat areas, the South Pennine Moors, in Rochdale, Oldham and Tameside, and Holcroft Moss, in Warrington. Near to the border of Greater Manchester, including, Salford, Wigan and Trafford.

Greater Manchester Fostering Fortnight

Taking place Monday 4th – Sunday 17th November, the fortnight aims to encourage residents across all ten boroughs to foster with their local council. Throughout the two weeks, the Foster for Greater Manchester campaign will focus on dispelling fostering myths. Early Education and Childcare Campaign

The campaign aims to address challenges in the early education and childcare sector by celebrating and valuing the existing workforce, raising awareness of the role of early education and childcare in supporting early child development and boosting recruitment into the sector though promoting the different roles and qualification pathways in GM.

Greater Manchester Top Ten Tips for Talking with Babies

The GM Ten Top Tips for Talking with Babies communications pack has been created to promote key messages to support the development of speech, language and communication skills from before they’re born to 2 years. Each tip is designed to give families and anyone working with babies some small suggestions that can make a big difference and help give children the best start.

Pension Top Up campaign - October 2024

Greater Manchester Ageing Hub is launching the next phase of the Pension Top Up campaign to encourage older people – or their loved ones – to check they are getting all that they are entitled to.  

Research shows there are around 38,000 eligible households not claiming Pension Credit, 30,000 not claiming Attendance Allowance, and 33,000 not claiming Carer’s Allowance

No matter what resources or capacity you have to put into a campaign, this toolkit offers options for everyone to play their part. Our ask is that your organisation does your bit to support people during these very challenging times.

Foster Care Fortnight 2024

Feel The Benefit

Inefficient heating and heat loss from poorly insulated homes has a big impact on the environment, contributing significantly to the UKs carbon emissions. Through the Feel the Benefit campaign, Greater Manchester Combined Authority and its partners are joining forces to help residents understand what improvements their homes might need, as well as identifying if they qualify for free or discounted upgrades.

This toolkit includes messages, graphics and resources to help promote Feel the Benefit via social media and other channels.

Greater Manchester Refill Destination

GMCA is working in partnership with not-for-profit organisation City to Sea to promote refill across the city-region. As part of this, Greater Manchester has been designated as an official Refill Destination, meaning businesses and public buildings across the city-region are opening their doors to allow residents to fill up re-useable water bottles for free. The Combined Authority will also be encouraging others to reduce single-use plastics in Greater Manchester by increasing awareness of refill and encouraging businesses to sign up as refill stations themselves.

Pension Credit

Thousands of older people across Greater Manchester are missing out on life-changing amounts of additional income. By encouraging and helping older residents to access the millions of pounds that go unclaimed in Pension Credit, there is an opportunity to put more money into people’s pockets.

The Greater Manchester Ageing Hub are encouraging older people – or their loved ones or friends – to check they are getting all that they are entitled to. The updated toolkit also provides the most recent estimates for the amount of Pension Credit going unclaimed in all 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester.

Winterwise

As residents across Greater Manchester face another tough winter, the Greater Manchester Ageing Hub is, for the second year running, sharing practical information to support people in later life across the city-region.

This year, the Ageing Hub is continuing to promote the Independent Age Winterwise guide, a free printed resource full of cost-of-living and wellbeing information around three themes: ‘Stay warm’, ‘Stay safe’ and ‘Stay well’. The updated Winterwise guide is also new messaging on managing your finances and encouraging take-up of later life benefits and entitlements.

Cost of living

The cost of living is increasingly impacting residents across Greater Manchester and worsening mental health as a result. Using the themes of food, bills, childcare, getting online and mental health itself, this toolkit focusses on the mental health impact of cost of living to encourage people to seek advice and support.

International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) 2023

International Day of Older Persons takes place annually on 1 October and provides an opportunity for communities around the world to come together, support older people and raise awareness about the challenges ageing populations face.

This year we are celebrating the importance of place and neighbourhoods in ageing well. Research has found that individuals aged 75 and over spend at least 80 per cent of their time in their homes or the surrounding area.

Doing Digital In Later Life- Communications Toolkit 2022

This communications toolkit has been developed to promote the new Doing Digital In Later Life guide which has been produced by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Good Things Foundation to support more people to get online and benefit from doing digital in later life.

This new guide has been designed for anyone from relatives and friends to carers and front-line workers to help them get started and support someone they know to do digital in later life. The guide includes helpful tips and guidance on how you can support someone to get online in later life. This guide has been produced as an outcome of the Mayor of Greater Manchester’s manifesto commitment to equip all under 25’s, over 75s and disabled people to with the skills, connectivity, and technology to get online. This guide is one of the ways Greater Manchester is working to support more residents over the age of 75 to participate digitally.

Information Strategy Delivery Workshops

We have conducted a consultation on what actions people think should be taken to implement the Greater Manchester #InformationStrategy which has outlined over 160 actions. #IsThisOK?

#IsThisOK? is a public engagement campaign to tackle gender-based violence. The current phase is aimed at young men and boys and calls on them to discuss why the types of gender-based violence that commonly occurs in public - such as sexual harassment and unwanted comments - is not OK. The campaign shows that seemingly small, everyday actions can make a real difference for women and girls.

Winterwise

As the costs of energy, food and other bills continue to rise, the coming months are expected to be difficult for many older residents across Greater Manchester.

The Greater Manchester Ageing Hub has partnered with national older person’s charity Independent Age to run a new campaign to launch Winterwise, a new guide to keeping well during the winter period.

More than 325,000 printed guides are being distributed across Greater Manchester by key partners including local councils and emergency services.

Odds Are: They Win

Odds Are: They Win is an anti-gambling harms campaign, not an anti-gambling campaign. The purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness of the harms linked to gambling. We want to highlight some of the tactics used by the gambling industry and to make people aware of the risks they face when they gamble.

Your Home, Better

Your Home, Better is an independent service delivered by retrofit experts, providing advice, planning and delivery to help reduce the costs of your bills as well as carbon emissions associated with home energy and heating.

Experts can deliver a ‘whole house’ assessment of homes and provide homeowners with a bespoke plan – giving them information about how their home’s energy performance can be upgraded, what needs to be done and in what order. Your Home, Better does not offer grants or funding, but can identify sources that could help towards the costs of home energy projects.

Greater Manchester Technology Fund

The Greater Manchester Technology Fund provided schools and colleges with the technology needed in ‘at-home’ settings to continue their learning. The fund has now transitioned from an emergency response, to a long-term support scheme to help tackle digital exclusion in communities across Greater Manchester.

Pension Top Up campaign - phase two

Greater Manchester Ageing Hub and Greater Manchester Housing Providers (GMHP) have launched the second phase of the Pension Top Up campaign to encourage older people – or their loved ones – to check they are getting all that they are entitled to.    

Research shows that estimated £70 million of Pension Credit is currently unclaimed in Greater Manchester with around 36,000 eligible recipients not claiming.   

With the cost-of-living crisis, it’s so important that older residents don’t miss out what they are entitled to, including Attendance Allowance, Housing Benefit and Pension Credit, to help meet growing household bills. 

This toolkit is designed to be used by local authorities, NHS organisations, VCSE organisations and others to promote the campaign, which includes a comms and engagement plan, social media assets and data packs.

Working Well campaign September 2021

GMCA's Education, Work and Skills team, is further raising awareness of Working Well - a family of services that embody Greater Manchester’s employment and health offer that have been commissioned to support people experiencing or are at risk of long-term unemployment. 

Working Well is a core part of Greater Manchester’s employment and health agenda and is grounded in the principles laid out in the Work, Health and Disability policy paper ‘Improving Lives’. In short ‘good work is good for your health’. 

Since its inception in 2014, Working Well programmes have supported 45,000 people and achieved 12,000 employment outcomes for individuals, with more than 20,000 people benefitting from the programme since the pandemic began.

Apprenticeships campaign August 2021

GMCA's latest apprenticeships campaign will launch on August 17, 2021, focusing on small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and unemployed adults in Greater Manchester.

The first phase of the campaign aims to raise awareness of apprenticeships within SMEs, ensuring they know how to find information, realise the benefits, and secure apprentices within their workplace, ultimately increasing the number of apprenticeship roles being offered.

The second phase of the campaign will raise awareness of apprenticeships with unemployed adults, ensuring they know how to find information and feel able to apply for apprenticeships in Greater Manchester.

Greater Manchester Homelessness Prevention Strategy consultation

Published: May 2021

In May 2021 GMCA launched a consultation on its draft Homelessness Prevention Strategy. 

This strategy looks at how we prevent homelessness, as well as mitigating the risks of homelessness when they happen. Homelessness prevention should be about proactively building wellbeing and participation, as well as taking steps to respond effectively when people need help.

This toolkit contains assets to help promote the consultation and encourage people and organisations to complete the consultation on gmconsult.org.

Greater Manchester violence reduction campaign - I am greater

Published: April 2021

In March 2021, we launched the first phase of a Greater Manchester-wide violence reduction campaign, aimed at young people.

Commissioned by the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit, the campaign is aimed at young people aged 10-17, to help them achieve their aspirations in life and provide support to prevent them from getting involved in crime.

The ‘I am greater’ campaign is positive and has been developed with input from young people. It will also offer support to parents and carers to help young people get on well in life.

This toolkit is to support partners in sharing the initial launch of the campaign and includes a briefing note and social media assets.

Pension Top-Up campaign

Greater Manchester Ageing Hub is working with Greater Manchester Housing Providers (GMHP) to support a campaign to encourage take up of pension credit.

This toolkit is a simplified and shortened version of the work produced by GMHP. It is designed to be used by local authorities, NHS organisations, VCSE organisations and others who support the GM Ageing Hub. NB, this toolkit replaces an earlier version which contained an error.

GMFRS Water Safety Campaign Toolkit

This toolkit is to support partners in supporting Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service's (GMFRS) safety messages around the dangers of open water.

GMFRS launched its new campaign on Monday, July 27, 2020, which was supported by a number of partner organisations and family members involved in the campaign, however, the messages and materials can be used as and when required during hot spells of hot weather.

Vulnerability Communications Toolkit

This toolkit is to support partners in amplifying Greater Manchester-wide messaging in relation to how we are working together to keep people safe, particularly those residents who are more at risk of domestic abuse, exploitation, and other crimes that affect the more vulnerable in our communities.

With families spending more time at home, there is an increased risk of incidents such as domestic abuse towards both children and adults. Support which has previously been in place has changed for many, and is potentially inaccessible for some.

The key audiences include victims and survivors, their families and friends and neighbours, children and young people who may be witnesses or perpetrators, and perpetrators themselves.

This toolkit is to support partners sharing messaging on the Local Full Fibre Network programme (LFFN) in  their localities.

In March 2020, we secured world-class digital infrastructure through biggest government full-fibre investment in the UK, through the appointment of Virgin Media Business up to 2,700km of new fibre optic broadband infrastructure will be delivered across the region. The £23.8M Local Full Fibre Networks Programme will connect more than 1,500 public sites across the city-region. In addition, some sites in Salford and Manchester will see their connectivity upgraded and a further 36 public sites will be connected through the innovative Tameside Cooperative, enhancing Greater Manchester’s position as a leading European digital city region.
